Before Sunday’s match, United had lost four consecutive games, with a disappointing defeat to Newcastle prompting Amorim to acknowledge his team was in a relegation battle.

However, they produced a strong performance against Liverpool, taking the lead through Lisandro Martinez shortly after halftime. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Mo Salah turned things around for Liverpool, but Amad Diallo equalized in the 80th minute. Harry Maguire missed a late chance to secure a win for United.

Gary Neville praised the performance as United’s best under Amorim, seeing it as a glimpse of what the team could achieve under his leadership. Despite the positive display, Amorim was visibly upset after the match, expressing frustration over previous games where the team had failed to show their quality.

“It wasn’t that we were suffering the whole game. We controlled the ball, made some fouls, and managed the transitions well,” Amorim told Sky Sports. “It was a good performance, but I’m not happy with the result. I’m really angry because of the other games. We should be even more disappointed than after Newcastle, Bournemouth, and Nottingham Forest.”

He revealed he didn’t share his true feelings with the players, opting instead to say the right things, though he admitted it was hard to hide his frustration. Amorim congratulated his players for their performance, but not for the result.

When told by the reporter that it was the angriest he had seen him post-match, Amorim responded, “Yeah, sometimes it’s like that. Today, everyone will say the players did everything right, and I’m allowed to be upset.”
