David Ornstein reveals surprising transfer showdown between Tottenham and Manchester United for World Cup star.

David Ornstein has reported that Tottenham and Manchester United are set to compete for the signing of a World Cup finalist during the January transfer window.

Both Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou and United boss Ruben Amorim are eager to strengthen their squads, though the two clubs face contrasting financial situations. Amorim has acknowledged that Manchester United’s January activity is likely to be limited due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations unless players are sold. Meanwhile, Tottenham are in a stronger financial position and have already signed Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky for approximately £12.5 million.

According to Ornstein via The Athletic, Spurs are now pursuing their second January signing, with Manchester United targeting the same player: PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani. Both clubs are reportedly interested in a loan deal for the French forward until the end of the season.

Kolo Muani, who joined PSG for €90 million in 2023, missed a crucial chance in the World Cup final that could have secured victory for France. Despite scoring six goals in 25 Ligue 1 matches last season, he has struggled this term with only two goals in 10 appearances. PSG manager Luis Enrique has recently excluded him from the squad due to poor form, making a January departure increasingly likely.

French outlet Telefoot reports that PSG would require any loan agreement to include a purchase option. The club has already rejected a loan proposal from Monaco following Folarin Balogun’s injury. When asked about Kolo Muani’s omission, Enrique declined to elaborate, stating, “My decisions say it all, even if, as I have said, all my decisions can be ch
