Robbie Fowler has offered a critical evaluation of a Liverpool player, suggesting that the more he watches him play under Arne Slot, the less he appears to be a “Liverpool player.”

Speaking as a pundit on ITV during Liverpool’s FA Cup third-round match against Accrington Stanley, Fowler addressed the situation surrounding Darwin Núñez. Manager Slot made several changes to the starting lineup following the midweek Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur, with players like Diogo Jota, Wataru Endo, and Núñez returning to the XI. Núñez, who has managed just four goals this season, has faced increasing scrutiny over his performances and future at the club.

Fowler didn’t hold back in his pre-match comments, saying:

“For me, the more I see him, the more I think he’s not a Liverpool player. People might criticize me for saying that. You’re not signing a player just because he works hard—you’ve got to score goals. He’s a fan favorite for his effort, but wearing that Liverpool shirt means you have to perform better.”

Despite his criticism, Fowler expressed belief in Núñez’s potential for improvement, offering advice on areas he needs to address:

“I don’t think he’s quick enough in his thought process when it comes to finishing. He’s fast over the ground, but as a striker, his speed of thought needs to be sharper. When he has too much time to think, he struggles. His instinctive play can be better, but there’s still room for improvement in terms of positioning and fini
