Following his missed penalty, Havertz became the target of vile messages on social media. His pregnant wife, Sophia, shared screenshots on Instagram showing disturbing threats directed at herself, Havertz, and their unborn child.

Expressing her shock, she wrote: “It’s so shocking that anyone thinks it’s acceptable to write things like this. I hope you’re ashamed of yourselves. Please, let’s be more respectful. We are better than this.”

Mikel Arteta defends his team
Despite back-to-back home defeats in cup competitions, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his team’s performance and insisted they deserved to win.

Speaking to the BBC, he said: “It’s unbelievable. When you measure our performance, we deserved to win the game by a mile. But football is like this—sometimes it doesn’t go your way.

“When it goes to penalties, it’s a flip of the coin. I’m so proud of my players. I love how good they are and what they do. In 1,000 games like this, we’d lose only one, and it happened to be tonight.”
