In the post-match discussion, Scholes contrasted United’s resilience in their recent 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield and their FA Cup triumph over Arsenal with their lackluster showing against Southampton. He questioned the team’s energy and focus, putting the observation to Amorim, who acknowledged issues with the team’s control rather than enthusiasm.

Amorim admitted, “It seems like a lack of enthusiasm. [Manuel] Ugarte is late, [Kobbie] Mainoo is late, and Bruno Fernandes is out of position. One transition and [Leny] Yoro can’t catch up. Small details like these make the team nervous and fall behind.” He added that United still has significant work to do and hinted that the player profiles might not fully align with his tactical vision.

Scholes didn’t hold back after the game, describing United’s first 80 minutes as “one of the worst performances you’ll ever see, especially against a team bottom of the league.” He credited Southampton for being the better team technically and tactically but noted their inability to capitalize, which has kept them at the bottom of the table.
