Arne Slot has avoided addressing speculation linking Harvey Elliott with a move away from Liverpool but acknowledged the midfielder’s frustration over limited playing time this season.

Elliott has yet to start a Premier League game this campaign and was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday. The England Under-21 international has started just two games this season, featuring in the Carabao Cup win over Southampton and the FA Cup victory against Accrington Stanley. A foot injury sustained in September sidelined him for nearly three months, restricting him to just 43 minutes of Premier League action so far.

Recent reports have linked Elliott with potential moves to Brighton & Hove Albion and Borussia Dortmund. While Slot declined to elaborate on these rumors, he admitted it would be unusual if Elliott were satisfied with his current role in the squad.

“It would be strange if he came to me and said, ‘I’m happy with my playing time,’” Slot remarked. “Of course, he wants to play more, and that’s the attitude he should have. But we don’t discuss transfer speculation or contract rumors publicly.”

Slot noted Elliott’s dedication in training but emphasized the competition he faces in Liverpool’s midfield, comparing it to the challenge Federico Chiesa encounters with Mohamed Salah. Slot also defended his tactical decisions, particularly in the Forest match, where substitutions aimed to increase attacking opportunities rather than rotating players unnecessarily.
