Liverpool fans are becoming increasingly frustrated with a recurring decision made by Arne Slot, even after the victory against Brentford.

Liverpool left it late to secure a crucial win over Brentford and maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League. Locked in a goalless stalemate for much of the game, the Reds were rescued by Darwin Nunez’s late brace, ensuring they kept a four-point cushion over second-placed Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s side dominated throughout, controlling over 60% of possession and attempting 37 shots compared to Brentford’s 11. Their xG of 3.40 far outweighed Brentford’s 0.72, reflecting their attacking intent. Despite the Bees having their moments, Liverpool’s superiority was evident. The win extended Slot’s impressive Premier League start, with his team dropping points in just six of 21 matches, including a single loss to Nottingham Forest, who are also vying for a Champions League spot.

However, not all aspects of Liverpool’s performance pleased the fans. Luis Diaz’s struggles as a central striker continued, sparking frustration among supporters. While Diaz has enjoyed his best season with Liverpool, his most impactful displays have come from his natural wide position. As a center-forward, he has managed three goals in seven games, with two of those coming in a single match against Tottenham.

Fan Frustration Over Diaz’s Role

Many fans voiced their displeasure with Slot’s persistence in playing Diaz centrally. One remarked, “Diaz through the center clearly doesn’t work. Disappointed Slot is persisting with this. Diaz looks lost up there.” Another fan added, “Sick of Diaz in 9. Play how you’re supposed to or not at all,” while a third commented, “Watching Diaz as a 9 against a low block should be a form of torture.”

Though Nunez’s performances have been inconsistent since his high-profile move from Benfica, he remains a natural striker. Fans recognize that, despite his erratic play at times, Nunez possesses the instincts and movements of a true number nine, something Diaz lacks. While Diaz has shown flashes of effectiveness in the role, his contributions are more suited to his preferred wide position, leaving many supporters calling for Slot to end the ex

periment.
