Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has given Marcus Rashford a new nickname following the forward’s loan move to Aston Villa.

De Gea, now 34, currently plays for Fiorentina in Serie A after leaving United in the summer of 2023. Having shared the pitch with Rashford 294 times, the two clearly maintain a strong bond.

Rashford, 27, has joined Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season, with the club holding a £40 million option to make the move permanent in the summer. According to The Athletic, Villa will cover at least 75 percent of his wages, potentially rising to 90 percent with performance-based bonuses.

On Sunday evening, the England international shared photos of himself in Aston Villa colors on Instagram, expressing gratitude to both United and Villa for facilitating the move. He revealed that although several clubs approached him, Villa was an easy choice due to their style of play and the manager’s ambitions. Rashford emphasized his desire to get back on the pitch and wished United well for the rest of the season.

Several former teammates, including Antony, Scott McTominay, and new Villa colleague Leon Bailey, left supportive comments. However, fans quickly spotted De Gea’s message, where he affectionately dubbed Rashford “The Wonder Kid.”

The Spanish goalkeeper has long been a vocal supporter of Rashford, previously predicting in 2016 that the forward would “make history” at United. Speaking to Sky Sports, De Gea praised Rashford’s goal-scoring ability, describing him as a talented but humble individual and a great teammate.
