Rashford was sidelined by manager Ruben Amorim, who hadn’t played him since December 12. He was excluded from every matchday squad except for the game against Newcastle United, where he was named in the squad but remained on the bench.

Now at Villa on loan until the end of the season, Rashford could make his debut on Sunday against Tottenham in the FA Cup—and possibly in an unexpected position.

Ahead of his potential first appearance for Villa, The Athletic reports that many of Rashford’s teammates supported Amorim’s decision to drop him. The club’s hierarchy also backed the manager’s tough stance, aligning with his strict approach.

Before choosing Villa, Rashford attracted interest from Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Paris Saint-Germain. He was drawn to Villa’s ambition, particularly after their strong Champions League group-stage campaign.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Rashford explained his decision:

“It’s a club in a good position in the league, pushing to go higher. They’re still in the Champions League, have an ambitious manager, and great talent in the squad. I had to choose somewhere that suits my style of football, where I can contribute and improve as a player. It’s a short-term move, so I want to make the most of my time here by using my skills to help the team.”
