This created space for at least one new arrival, though manager Enzo Maresca remained tight-lipped when asked about potential signings following Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over West Ham.

Behind the scenes, however, Chelsea were working on a move for 19-year-old French midfielder Mathis Amougou, who has made 17 Ligue 1 appearances this season. Reports on deadline day suggested the club had agreed to a £12 million deal, with plans to loan him to Strasbourg for the remainder of the campaign.

Now, Chelsea have confirmed the signing, with Amougou penning an eight-and-a-half-year contract at Stamford Bridge. The exact timing of the deal’s completion remains unclear, though clubs can submit a deal sheet between 9pm and 11pm to secure extra time for finalizing paperwork.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Amougou expressed his excitement: “I’m very happy. It’s an honour for me to sign for such a big club like Chelsea. They believe in young players, and their development process is fantastic.”
