The Liverpool star’s remarks about Arne Slot reveal a lot about the Reds’ manager.

Alexis Mac Allister has praised Arne Slot for seamlessly transitioning into the Liverpool managerial role.

The Reds have been dominant in the Premier League, holding a six-point lead over second-place Arsenal, and comfortably secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final on Thursday. Despite being a key player, the Argentine midfielder was brought on late as Liverpool cruised past Tottenham.

Overcoming a 1-0 first-leg deficit in the semi-final, they now face Newcastle United at Wembley in March, aiming for Slot’s first trophy since taking charge. There were initial doubts about how Liverpool would fare post-Jürgen Klopp, especially after a disappointing final season under him.

Mac Allister admitted he was initially unsure about a new manager replacing Klopp but has been impressed by Slot’s impact. Speaking to La Media Inglesa, he said: “He is a legend. It was sad, but it was his decision, and you have to respect that. Last season was tough. When a new coach arrives, anything can happen. We were lucky because the club found a great one. Arne is fantastic.

“We’re performing better than expected. Honestly, better than I thought we would. And that’s thanks to him. He’s strong and ambitious.”

After joining Liverpool from Brighton in 2023, Mac Allister took on a more defensive midfield role during Klopp’s final campaign. Now, he has embraced Slot’s tactical adjustments in midfield.

Slot previously praised Mac Allister, saying, “I can’t recall a poor performance from him—he’s so consistent.” The midfielder has been a regular starter when fit, playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s strong Champions League campaign.

Liverpool’s impressive form has surprised many, given they made just one major signing last summer. However, Klopp had laid the groundwork for their resurgence, something Mac Allister acknowledged. He credited the former boss and ex-technical director Julian Ward for convincing him to join.

“Klopp and Julian Ward were key to me coming here,” Mac Allister revealed. “They showed great interest, and I spoke with Klopp before signing. That conversation was crucial—it assured me they truly wanted me and that I’d be an important par

t of the team.”
