Liverpool are prepared to secure the signing of Barcelona’s star player in a sensational budget-friendly deal, which could be the steal of the summer.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to move for a Barcelona star as they look to kick-start their summer transfer plans.

Since taking charge in July, Arne Slot has not overseen much transfer activity, with the Reds securing just two permanent signings in the summer and none in the winter. Instead, the Dutch manager has focused on maximizing the squad he inherited, notably converting Ryan Gravenberch into a dynamic defensive midfielder and helping Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz improve their attacking output.

Liverpool initially targeted a defensive midfielder last summer but abandoned their plans after Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield. The Spaniard has since been linked with Arsenal for next season, despite previously turning down a switch to the Premier League.

Now, Liverpool are reportedly set to make a move for another long-term target who could be available from Barcelona. According to Caught Offside, the Reds are eyeing Frenkie de Jong, believing the Dutch midfielder could be signed for just €35 million (£29.3 million).

Barcelona’s ongoing financial struggles have limited their ability to register players, an issue dating back to 2021 when they failed to renew Lionel Messi’s contract. With De Jong among the club’s highest earners, he may be allowed to leave.

Barcelona originally signed him for €75 million in 2019, and his contract includes a massive €400 million release clause. However, with his deal set to expire in 2026 and his role under Hansi Flick becoming inconsistent, Liverpool could finally succeed where Manchester United previously failed—bringing the 27-year-old to the Premie
