Enzo Maresca suggests he may replace a Chelsea star with a new signing after the Aston Villa match.

Enzo Maresca hinted that he may consider replacing one of Chelsea’s regular starters in the summer following their performance against Aston Villa.

On Saturday, Chelsea took an early lead through Enzo Fernandez’s tap-in, but Aston Villa staged a comeback to win 2-1, with Marco Asensio scoring twice—both assisted by Marcus Rashford, whose introduction changed the game.

After the match, Maresca suggested he might look to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper after Filip Jorgensen’s error allowed Asensio’s late winner to slip under him. Jorgensen had recently taken over from the inconsistent Robert Sanchez, but Maresca stopped short of guaranteeing him a long-term role, stating that the 22-year-old was only the current No. 1 “in this moment.”

“The goalkeeper position is very delicate,” Maresca told BBC’s Match of the Day. “When they make a mistake, it’s clear for everyone. Unfortunately, Filip made a mistake. But at this moment, he’s our keeper, and we need to stay strong and support each other.”

He also acknowledged that while both Chelsea goalkeepers have had strong performances in some games, their position remains a concern.

The defeat to Villa marked Chelsea’s most painful loss of the season, according to Maresca. Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “This is probably the toughest defeat of the season. The reaction from Brighton was brilliant, but right now, it’s not enough.”

Chelsea have now dropped 15 points from winning positions this season, with 13 of those coming since Boxing Day. Maresca emphasized the importance of being clinical in key moments, noting, “The difference is in the box. We had chances but didn’t score.”
