The FA has officially confirmed that Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, have been handed an extended touchline ban following their actions after the recent Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
The incident occurred after Everton’s James Tarkowski scored a last-minute goal, sparking chaos at the final whistle. Referee Michael Oliver issued four red cards, including dismissals for Slot and Hulshoff due to their heated reactions towards the officials.
Following a thorough review, the FA announced that both Liverpool coaches would serve a two-match suspension, ruling them out of crucial fixtures, including Liverpool’s Premier League clashes against Newcastle United on Wednesday and Southampton on March 8.
An official statement from the FA detailed the sanctions, stating that both Slot and Hulshoff admitted to improper conduct and the use of abusive language toward match officials. Slot received a two-match touchline ban and a £70,000 fine, while Hulshoff faced the same suspension along with a £7,000 fine.
Additionally, Everton and Liverpool were fined £65,000 and £50,000, respectively, for failing to control their players and staff after the final whistle.
Despite their absence, Slot and Hulshoff will be back in time for Liverpool’s highly anticipated Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on March 16. In their absence, assistant first-team coach John Heitinga is expected to take charge on the touchline.
