Darwin Núñez’s departure from Liverpool in the summer transfer window is starting to feel inevitable.

His time at Anfield has stalled somewhat under Arne Slot, and recent criticism regarding his work rate hasn’t helped his situation. Fabrizio Romano has now reported that a summer exit is a “concrete possibility.”

The key question, then, is how sporting director Richard Hughes plans to address the void Núñez would leave behind.

Liverpool eyeing Alexander Isak as a potential replacement

If Alexander Isak becomes available, he’s unlikely to be short of suitors. Arsenal have been consistently linked with the Swedish striker as they look to strengthen their attacking options, and now Liverpool have entered the mix.

“Isak has a deal at St James’ Park until 2028. Eddie Howe described contract talks with Isak as a ‘complex situation’ late last year. He is earning about £140,000 a week, high for Newcastle, low for his growing status,” Martin Hardy reported via The Times.

“Arsenal have long been mentioned as suitors, but Liverpool too are said to have a growing interest.”

Given Isak’s impressive performances, it’s no surprise Liverpool are monitoring him. According to FBref, he ranks among Europe’s most clinical strikers, sitting in the 95th percentile for expected goals (xG). His overall game is just as strong, with rankings in the 92nd percentile for progressive carries and successful take-ons, 88th percentile for expected assisted goals (xAG), and 87th percentile for touches in the opposition box.

Isak increasingly looks like the complete forward—surely he’s on Liverpool’s radar.

If it comes down to a head-to-head battle with Arsenal for his signature, Liverpool will hope to have the upper hand.
