Liverpool Confirm Gerrard’s Participation in Legends Match

On Tuesday morning, Liverpool FC announced via their official website that Gerrard will participate in the LFC Foundation’s annual legends charity match. This year’s event, scheduled for 22 March, will see a team of Chelsea legends take on a side of former Liverpool stars at Anfield.

Gerrard will reunite with former teammates such as Sami Hyypia, Martin Skrtel, Peter Crouch, and Dirk Kuyt in the much-anticipated fixture. The proceeds from the match will support the LFC Foundation’s health initiatives, which aim to address health inequalities in the city by offering physical and mental wellbeing programs for all age groups.

Gerrard’s Long-Standing Chelsea Rivalry

Gerrard has regularly featured in previous LFC Legends matches, including games against Ajax last year, Celtic in 2023, and past encounters with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. His participation in this year’s event is another example of his continued commitment to charitable causes.

Facing Chelsea will add an extra layer of motivation for the Liverpool icon, given his eventful history with the London club. While he played a crucial role in two Champions League semi-final victories over the Blues, he also endured difficult moments—such as his own goal in the 2005 League Cup final and his infamous slip during the 2014 Premier League title race.
