Newcastle face another major setback before the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool, as a second star player is reportedly out for the season.

Just days after Anthony Gordon was ruled out of this month’s Carabao Cup final, Newcastle has suffered another major setback, with a key player set to miss their clash against Liverpool on March 16.

Gordon received a three-match suspension for violent conduct after being shown a straight red card in Newcastle’s dramatic FA Cup fifth-round match against Brighton. The winger was sent off in the final minutes after an altercation with defender Jan Paul van Hecke. While Newcastle initially considered appealing the decision, they ultimately chose not to, confirming that Gordon will miss games against West Ham, Brentford, and Liverpool.

Now, Newcastle has lost another important player ahead of the final. Lewis Hall, who missed the Brighton match, sustained an ankle injury during their recent 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, raising doubts about his availability for Wembley.

Speaking after the Brighton game, manager Eddie Howe gave an uncertain update on Hall’s condition, revealing that the left-back had swelling and ongoing pain. After undergoing a scan and consulting a specialist, it was confirmed that Hall will require surgery and miss the rest of the 2024/25 season.

Newcastle released a statement confirming the news, stating that Hall will now begin a rehabilitation period with the club’s medical team. The club wished him well for his recovery.

In his absence, Kieran Trippier or Tino Livramento are expected to step in as Newcastle look to contain the dangerous Mohamed Salah.
