Ruben Amorim reportedly shares a surprising private opinion about Manchester United players with friends, raising concerns among fans.

Ruben Amorim has reportedly admitted to friends that he regrets taking the Manchester United job and has been shocked by the quality of the squad, which could alarm fans.

Amorim was appointed as United’s manager last November, replacing Erik ten Hag on a contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.

The Portuguese coach arrived at Old Trafford with a strong reputation after his success at Sporting CP, where he famously led his team to a Champions League victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

However, his tenure at United has been challenging, with the club’s latest disappointment coming in an FA Cup exit at the hands of Fulham last weekend.

According to Football Insider, Amorim has confided in friends that he believes he made a mistake by accepting the job and should have waited until the summer instead of giving in to United’s “now-or-never” pressure during negotiations.

Sources also claim the 40-year-old has been “personally shocked” by the squad’s poor quality, admitting he initially thought the players were much better.

Since taking charge, Amorim has suffered 10 defeats, including the FA Cup elimination to Fulham on penalties.

Despite the setbacks, United still have a chance to salvage their season with a strong Europa League campaign. They face Real Sociedad in the last 16, but Amorim insists the club’s long-term future is more important than short-term silverware.

“People see the Europa League as the only competition we can win, especially with the link to Champions League qualification,” he said. “But honestly, I think we have bigger things to focus on.

“I know it sounds strange, but we are trying to build something here that will be more important than just winning a cup at this moment.”
