Gary Neville believes last season’s Arsenal was stronger than this season’s Liverpool.

Gary Neville believes Arsenal’s drop in form has allowed Liverpool to build a 15-point lead in the Premier League.

“Arsenal should have been much closer to them,” the former Manchester United captain told Sky Sports.

“Last season’s Arsenal was just as good, if not better, than this season’s Liverpool. They should be competing neck and neck. I know injuries have played a part, but you have to plan for that. Arsenal haven’t signed a striker in three years, and now they’re complaining about not having one.”

He continued: “Arsenal have fallen short due to poor recruitment and a lack of flexibility in their approach to set pieces. If they had matched last season’s points total, they would be champions.”

Arsenal finished second to Manchester City last season but are now far behind a Liverpool side that needs just 15 points from their last nine matches to secure a 20th league title.
