Liverpool fans already had reason to be concerned after Virgil van Dijk was spotted speaking with Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi following the Reds’ Champions League exit. Now, his remarks about his future have only added to the uncertainty.

With just over three months left on his contract, Van Dijk gave little reassurance when asked about his plans. Speaking to The Times’ Paul Joyce, the Dutch defender admitted he remains unsure about his future at Anfield.

“I have no idea. I genuinely have no idea at the moment,” he said. “It’s not on hold—nothing is on hold. I keep saying the same thing. There are 10 games left, and that’s my full focus. If there’s news, you guys will know. Even I don’t know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do, they’re lying.”

While it’s possible Van Dijk is negotiating behind the scenes to extend his stay, his vague response will do little to ease fans’ nerves. Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes seems to be preparing for a future without the 33-year-old, with the club linked to center-backs like Dean Huijsen, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Joel Ordoñez.

However, given the team’s injury struggles—with Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, and Trent Alexander-Arnold all sidelined—losing Van Dijk without securing reinforcements would be a major setback.
