Sky journalist delivers major Joshua Kimmich update this morning amid Liverpool transfer links.

Joshua Kimmich Makes Decision on Future Amid Liverpool Links

Joshua Kimmich has seemingly settled his future despite prolonged speculation linking him with Liverpool.

Last month, TBR Football reported that Liverpool officials had held discussions with the Bayern Munich midfielder about a possible move to Anfield, as his contract was set to expire this summer. However, a fresh update from a top German football journalist suggests that the Reds’ pursuit has been unsuccessful.

According to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Kimmich is set to sign a contract extension with Bayern Munich today, committing to the club until 2029. Bayern have also planned a significant announcement regarding the player later this afternoon.

Kimmich’s Decision Puts Pressure on Liverpool’s Contract Plans

Kimmich’s versatility as a defensive midfielder and right-back made him an appealing target for Liverpool, especially with ongoing uncertainty surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future. His decision to remain in Munich adds further pressure on the Reds’ hierarchy to resolve key contract situations involving Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk.

While Liverpool’s owners, FSG, may have hesitated over committing to a player in his 30s on a reported £315,000-per-week salary (Capology), the prospect of signing Kimmich on a free transfer had been an enticing opportunity.

Now, Liverpool must shift focus to securing new deals for their star players, ensuring they don’t face similar contract dilemmas in the near future. If they succeed in doing so, missing out on Kimmich could become a minor footnote rather than a major regret.
