It would be unfair for pundits to heavily criticise Mo Salah during the latter half of Liverpool’s title push, especially given his immense contribution—44 goal involvements (27 goals and 17 assists) in the Premier League this season.
However, it’s impossible to ignore that Salah has delivered another underwhelming performance post-international break.
On Sunday against Fulham, it was down to Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz to keep Liverpool’s hopes alive, with the Egyptian struggling to make an impact once again.
Salah’s dip in form continues
While Liverpool’s defensive woes stole the headlines—earning Roy Keane’s scathing “mid-table team” remark—Salah’s performance didn’t escape scrutiny.
Andy Robertson, who was substituted in the second half, received the lowest Sofascore rating (6/10), but Salah wasn’t far behind with a 6.2. WhoScored’s rating was even harsher, reflecting how far below par he was.
At 32, there’s growing concern over Salah’s recent slump. The league’s standout star for most of the season is now being kept quiet far too easily by defenders.
“Calvin Bassey has completely shut down Mo Salah,” said Clinton Morrison on BBC Radio 5 Live. “He’s been too strong, always a step ahead. Salah’s had a few glimpses in the second half but has been largely anonymous.”
Looking at the bigger picture
Despite his recent form, it’s tough to be overly critical when Salah has registered 54 goal contributions in 45 appearances across all competitions. He’s continued to break records and solidify his legacy at Anfield.
Still, with his last goal coming back in early March against Southampton, Liverpool’s attack is beginning to look uninspired and lacking bite up front.
