Report: Liverpool set asking price for Luis Diaz as contract negotiations stall

Luis Diaz has recently found a resurgence in form, but uncertainty still surrounds his long-term future at Liverpool.

Last week, Fabrizio Romano noted that the Colombian winger’s situation should be closely monitored heading into the summer, with continued interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. Romano added that the 28-year-old will soon need to decide whether to stay at Anfield or move on. While his current deal runs until June 2027, there’s a possibility he may not see out the remainder of his contract.

Liverpool could cash in on Diaz for £60m

As reported by Football Insider, Liverpool may consider offers of £60 million or more for Diaz this summer—provided he is open to a move away from Merseyside.

The club has held discussions over a new deal with the winger in recent months, but no agreement has been reached. With little progress being made, the Liverpool hierarchy could be tempted to accept a significant bid if the terms are right.

Liverpool should be cautious about selling Diaz

Diaz joined Liverpool for an initial £37.5m in January 2022, with the fee potentially rising to £50m (BBC). Selling him for £60m or more may seem like smart business—especially as he approaches 30—but it comes with risk.

A stretch of one goal in 19 appearances before the recent Fulham match raised concerns about his end product. However, he has since bounced back with goals in back-to-back games and has contributed either a goal or assist in his last five Premier League outings (Transfermarkt).

Although journalist Christian Falk recently reported Liverpool’s interest in Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman as a potential replacement on the left wing, the Frenchman is older than Diaz and has a worrying injury history. Offloading Diaz to bring in Coman could therefore be a misstep.
