Report: Liverpool eyeing surprise move for “incredible” Chelsea star

Liverpool Reportedly Exploring Shock Move for Chelsea Star Cole Palmer

Liverpool are said to be exploring a surprise summer move for Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Palmer has been a standout performer since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last season, scoring 34 goals in 89 appearances for the Blues. Despite limited first-team action at City, he was highly rated there, and Chelsea’s decision to take a chance on him has clearly paid off.

Phillips reports that both Liverpool and Palmer’s former club Man City have shown interest, with City recently making an enquiry about re-signing the England international.

That said, Phillips remains doubtful Chelsea will be willing to let Palmer leave. In a recent Substack post, he said: “Meanwhile, and I’m not saying we do sell him by the way, both Manchester City and Liverpool have been sniffing around Cole Palmer for the summer, with City making an enquiry recently.”

Chelsea legend John Terry previously labelled Palmer as “incredible,” and it’s easy to see why Liverpool might be keen, given the inconsistency of players like Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and the injury struggles of Diogo Jota. Man City, meanwhile, may now regret letting Palmer go, especially amid Phil Foden’s dip in form.

Still, it’s unclear whether Chelsea would entertain offers. However, former Blues defender Frank Leboeuf told the Metro that the club’s owners are likely to sell at the right price.

“Sure, they give big, long contracts for young players but if they can make a profit, then they will sell them,” Leboeuf said. “Cole Palmer, who was bought for £40m, could be sold for £120–130 million in the summer if they got an offer. I think they will take the money and buy two younger players.

“The goal is not to be champions of England, the goal is not to be in the Champions League, it’s to make money out of the players that they’ve bought.”
