A Liverpool player who has seen limited action this season has now attracted interest from one of football’s most prominent managers.
Federico Chiesa’s start to life at Anfield has been far from ideal. After missing out on a full pre-season, the Italian winger has struggled to regain fitness and secure a consistent spot in the starting eleven. Since January, Liverpool have played 16 Premier League games—yet Chiesa has featured for just 15 minutes in the league, highlighting his peripheral role in the squad.
Mourinho wants Chiesa at Fenerbahce
According to Turkish outlet A Spor, Jose Mourinho is eager to sign Chiesa for Fenerbahce. The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss is reportedly pushing the club’s board to pursue the 27-year-old in the upcoming transfer window as he seeks to strengthen his wide options at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Mourinho may not be the ideal coach for Chiesa
While Liverpool manager Arne Slot has previously cited fitness concerns as a reason for Chiesa’s limited use, his continued absence from the team sheet—despite moments like his goal in the Carabao Cup final—remains puzzling. Publicly, Slot has supported the winger, but Mourinho is known for being far less forgiving with underperforming players, as seen in his past dealings with the likes of Luke Shaw and Dele Alli.
Chiesa, once hailed as a “top-level talent” by ITV’s Seb Hutchinson following his FA Cup goal against Accrington Stanley, hasn’t yet been able to make his mark at Liverpool. While a summer exit is possible, Fenerbahce may not be the right move—especially under a coach like Mourinho, whose confrontational style could do more harm than good for a player low on confidence.
As the season concludes, there’s hope that Chiesa can make one more league appearance to qualify for a winner’s medal and potentially find his form in the next campaign.
