Anthony Gordon has broken his silence following his red card during Newcastle United’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night. The winger, who had been praised by Jamie Carragher as one of the standout performers in the first half, was sent off for a reckless tackle on Virgil van Dijk — a turning point that ultimately shifted momentum in Liverpool’s favour, despite Newcastle’s dominant stretches.

In response to the backlash, Gordon has now addressed the incident publicly with an emotional message directed at fans.

Gordon Issues Apology and Reflects on Red Card

Posting on social media after the match, Gordon expressed remorse over the incident, explaining that his aggressive challenge stemmed from a desire to energize the team in a high-intensity game. He also extended a personal apology to van Dijk.

Van Dijk later admitted he was shocked the foul wasn’t initially given as a red card, saying:

Due to the straight red, Gordon is now set to miss three matches, including Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures against Leeds, Bournemouth, and Wolves.
