Liverpool Ready to Step Up Pursuit of Alexander Isak as FSG Spot Ideal Market Opportunity

Fabrizio Romano believes Liverpool are set to intensify negotiations today for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, with Fenway Sports Group viewing the deal as a prime opportunity in the current market.

Throughout August, speculation around Isak’s future has been constant, with the 25-year-old making his desire to leave St James’ Park clear. Liverpool reportedly had a £110 million bid rejected earlier this month but remain persistent.

With just five days left in the transfer window, Reds sporting director Richard Hughes is expected to push harder for a breakthrough with Newcastle, possibly accelerating talks within the next 24 hours.

Romano: Isak Deal Still in Play, Liverpool Ready to Act

Speaking to DAZN Football, Romano said Liverpool remain committed to signing Isak:
“Liverpool can’t wait forever. They’ve been waiting over a month for this deal. Newcastle haven’t given the green light yet, but Liverpool will continue to push. I expect more discussions tonight or tomorrow. They’re not changing their focus – they want Isak.”

In a separate update on his YouTube channel, Romano described Isak as Liverpool’s “perfect opportunity” – a striker who fits their profile, with no current competition for his signature.
“He’s not in talks with any other club, only Liverpool. It’s a huge opportunity to bring in one of the top strikers to wear the Liverpool shirt,” he explained.

Last Big Push Hinges on Newcastle’s Plans

Despite Liverpool’s determination, Newcastle are reluctant to sell their star forward — particularly to a Premier League rival — unless they secure a suitable replacement. Isak, who’s scored 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, remains central to their plans.

Newcastle’s pursuit of Wolves striker Hwang Hee-chan (also referred to as Jorge Strand Larsen in earlier reports) has hit roadblocks, with multiple bids rejected. Unless they can finalize an incoming transfer, they may be unwilling to sanction Isak’s departure.
