Gary Lineker calls a Manchester United star “very special” and believes he could become “a beast” under the guidance of Ruben Amorim.

Gary Lineker recently highlighted a Manchester United player he feels has been “very special” under Erik ten Hag as Rúben Amorim takes over as head coach.

Amorim, who officially started at United this week after arriving at Carrington on Monday, replaced Erik ten Hag following the club’s decision to part ways with him last month. The 39-year-old manager immediately began making adjustments, dismissing Ruud van Nistelrooy and three other coaches upon his arrival.

Over the next two weeks, Amorim will evaluate his squad to finalize his preferred lineup ahead of his debut match, an away game against Ipswich Town in the Premier League. Amorim has already stated his intent to employ a 3-4-2-1 formation, sparking interest in how current players might fit into his system.

Lineker’s “very special” player Although Amorim is expected to bring in new talent over time, United already has several promising young players, generating excitement about their potential growth under the new coach.

Gary Lineker has singled out one standout, Rasmus Højlund, who he believes performed admirably last season despite the team’s overall inconsistency. “He was performing consistently well in the side that wasn’t performing consistently well,” Lineker told British GQ. “That’s when you look at players and think that they might have something very special.”

Højlund’s potential under Amorim The 21-year-old Danish striker is considered a likely beneficiary of Amorim’s leadership. Having transformed Sporting’s Viktor Gyökeres into a “beast,” Amorim may similarly bring out the best in Højlund, who shares attributes of speed, power, and strength with the Swedish striker.

Højlund himself is enthusiastic about Amorim’s arrival, saying, “I’m really looking forward to it… I have seen how they play. I have spoken to Morten [Hjulmand, Sporting midfielder] about it, and he is also very satisfied with the coach, so I am really looking forward to him setting foot here.”

He added, “I am very much looking forward to working with a young and ambitious manager… He has an understanding of modern football. I don’t see it as a disadvantage that he is young; it might even bring something extra.”
