Manchester City fans believe their star player is being played out of position and are calling on Pep Guardiola to make an immediate change.

Pep Guardiola has suffered four consecutive defeats for the first time in his tenure as Manchester City manager.

Following this run, City fans are convinced Guardiola is deploying one of his key players out of position. The recent 2-1 loss to Brighton at the Amex Stadium marked the fourth successive defeat, a record previously unheard of under Guardiola’s leadership.

Injuries have plagued the team recently, and Guardiola even jokingly referred to his lineup as a “terrible squad” in a pre-match press conference. Nonetheless, he’s had to make substantial adjustments, including placing Matheus Nunes on the left of midfield and shifting Kyle Walker into a central defensive role alongside youngster Jahmai Simpson-Pusey.

Yet, it’s Rico Lewis’s positioning that is drawing the most concern from fans. Lewis has alternated between full-back roles during the injury crisis, but supporters are urging Guardiola to move him into midfield instead.

One fan expressed on Twitter, “Rico Lewis is definitely not the answer to our right-back problems. He’s got potential and is a good young player but should be moved to midfield.” Another added, “Rico Lewis is not a good defender. My word.” Others questioned his defensive suitability, with comments like, “In what world is Rico Lewis a defender?”

City initially led with an Erling Haaland goal in the first half and held a 1-0 advantage at halftime. However, Brighton took control in the second half, equalizing through Joao Pedro before summer signing Matt O’Riley completed the comeback in the 83rd minute. Brighton moved up to fourth, while City sit in second place, two points behind Liverpool, who still have a game in hand before their match against Aston Villa.
