Manchester United trio criticized with key issue highlighted as Ruben Amorim takes charge
Emmanuel Petit has called on Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, and Marcus Rashford to elevate their performances as new manager Ruben Amorim begins his tenure. Although there was some improvement under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy following Erik ten Hag’s exit, United remains in 13th place in the Premier League. Amorim plans to implement a three-at-the-back system, leading to uncertainties about certain players’ roles.
Petit, 54, believes that these wingers must fight to secure their spots but questions their ability to be regular starters. He even hinted their positions could be at risk if their form doesn’t improve soon.
“For me, Manchester United’s quality in certain positions isn’t sufficient,” the former Arsenal and Chelsea player told Instant Casino (via The Mirror). “They need stronger players, especially in midfield and on the wings. I’m sorry, but I’m not convinced by Garnacho, Amad, or Rashford. Amorim has a big task ahead.”
Despite Petit’s doubts, Amad recently impressed with two goals against PAOK in the Europa League and assisted Bruno Fernandes’ goal against Leicester. Garnacho also scored in United’s recent win over Leicester, where he leads the team with seven goals this season.
Rashford, meanwhile, has been under scrutiny for inconsistent performances. He failed to take a shot in his first three starts under Ten Hag and was substituted early against Leicester.
Former United chief scout Mick Brown also commented on Rashford, attributing his struggles to a lack of consistency. However, Brown emphasized Rashford’s deep Manchester roots and natural talent, suggesting he still has the potential to regain his form.
“Marcus is a Manchester native; he embodies United’s spirit, but his inconsistency has held him and the team back this season,” Brown told Football Insider. “He’s got immense talent but rarely completes a full game. Amorim will evaluate his level and try to maximize his performance, as it just wasn’t working unde
