Mikel Arteta might approve five Arsenal transfers in January, aiming to generate a £72.6m boost.

The January transfer window is just six weeks away, and Arsenal could be more active than usual this time around.

In the summer, the Gunners brought in four new players—Riccardo Calafiori, Mikel Merino, Raheem Sterling, and Neto—while making David Raya’s loan move permanent. The transfers of Calafiori, Merino, and Raya alone added approximately £100 million to Arsenal’s spending under Mikel Arteta’s tenure. To balance the books, key departures such as Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Aaron Ramsdale generated significant fees, with profits from academy graduates Smith Rowe and Nketiah providing a financial boost.

Despite these moves, Arsenal has had a somewhat inconsistent season. They currently sit fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Liverpool, falling short of preseason expectations to challenge Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City for the title.

Reinforcements in January could strengthen the squad, but Arsenal’s budget remains limited. Adding to their challenges, sporting director Edu recently resigned, creating instability at a crucial time. To free up funds for new signings, Arsenal may need to offload some players who are no longer integral to Arteta’s plans.

Potential Outgoings:

1. Kieran Tierney
After spending last season on loan at Real Sociedad, Tierney’s Arsenal future looks uncertain. A summer transfer was derailed by a hamstring injury, but with his recovery nearing completion, a move is likely to be revisited. The Scotland international, valued at £8.4 million, still has 18 months left on his contract, making a sale feasible.

2. Oleksandr Zinchenko
Zinchenko has slipped down the pecking order due to the arrival of Calafiori and Jurrien Timber’s return from injury. Limited to just two starts this season, the Ukraine international is now Arsenal’s third-choice left-back. Valued at £29.2 million, a sale could recoup most of the fee Arsenal paid for him in 2022.

3. Jakub Kiwior
Despite providing solid cover, Kiwior’s limited playing time might make him a candidate for sale. Valued at £25 million, selling him could secure a profit over the £20 million Arsenal spent nearly two years ago.

4. Jorginho
The experienced midfielder, valued at £10 million, has just six months left on his contract. While he has been dependable when called upon, selling him in January would prevent losing him on a free transfer next summer.

5. Myles Lewis-Skelly
At just 18 years old, Lewis-Skelly has immense potential but limited opportunities this season. A loan move could provide valuable first-team experience while preserving his long-term future at Arsenal.

By sanctioning these departures, Arteta could create the financial flexibility needed to strengthen the squad in January without significantly weakening his team.
