Rasmus Hojlund shares insights from conversations with star Ruben Amorim, who considers him a “complete midfielder.”

Rasmus Hojlund is enthusiastic about working with incoming Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, after gaining insight on him from Sporting Lisbon midfielder and fellow Denmark international Morten Hjulmand.

Amorim, who wrapped up his Sporting tenure with a thrilling home win over Manchester City, will officially start at Old Trafford on November 11. United’s struggle with scoring has been a pressing issue, with only Crystal Palace and Southampton scoring fewer goals under Erik ten Hag this season. Amorim aims to improve this, with Hojlund eager to maintain his position as the main attacking threat under the new coach, after discussing Amorim’s approach with Hjulmand.

“I’m really looking forward to this. He has great ideas, and I’ve seen how his teams play,” Hojlund told Tipsbladet. “I spoke with Morten Hjulmand about it, and he’s very pleased with the coach, so I’m eager for him to come here. From what I’ve observed, it’s a back-three system, which is a bit different from what I’m used to. It will be exciting to see his ideas in action, and I look forward to working with a young, ambitious coach.”

Hojlund added that Amorim’s youth might be an asset, bringing a modern understanding of football. He discussed with Hjulmand during the last international break how Amorim brings fresh ideas and a different approach.

Hjulmand, who became a key part of Sporting’s midfield after joining last summer following Manuel Ugarte’s move to PSG, was previously praised by Amorim as a “more complete” midfielder than Ugarte. Amorim contrasted their styles, saying while Ugarte excelled in finding players across the pitch, Hjulmand’s strengths lie in his game-reading, positioning, and anticipation, qualities Amorim highly values.
