Ruben Amorim chose not to retain Ruud van Nistelrooy at Manchester United due to specific reasons or considerations.

Manchester United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, is still settling into his role at Carrington, but he has already made a significant decision. The 39-year-old Portuguese coach has quickly won over fans, even though he’s only been in Manchester for a few days. His recent appearance with young players Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo sparked excitement among supporters about his plans for the team’s youth.

However, one person likely disappointed by Amorim’s arrival is Ruud van Nistelrooy, whose brief stint as interim head coach came to an end on Monday. Van Nistelrooy left after four unbeaten games, as Amorim decided not to keep him on, despite weeks of contemplation about the future of the United legend.

The reason for Amorim’s decision was revealed by transfer expert Graeme Bailey. He explained that Van Nistelrooy was open to staying, but the football department made it clear that the final choice was Amorim’s. While Van Nistelrooy didn’t want to impose himself, Amorim made it clear that it wasn’t a personal issue. He already had his own plans and, regardless of who it was, wasn’t interested in having them as part of the coaching staff. Amorim wanted to avoid placing Van Nistelrooy in a subordinate role, such as doing basic tasks like picking up bibs, showing respect for him. As a result, he opted for a clean break, which is seen as the best solution for everyone at the club.

On the other hand, while Amorim found Van Nistelrooy expendable, he may have a future for another coach in mind. Adam Lawrence, who has excelled as the U18s coach by leading them to a treble last season and maintaining an unbeaten record this season, might be due for a promotion. Lawrence’s U18s have won all nine games this season, scoring 43 goals and conceding just 4, placing them top of the U18 Premier League. Given his success, it’s possible that Amorim will move him up to the first-team setup in the near future.
