Interim Manchester United head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed confidence in striker Joshua Zirkzee’s potential to succeed at Old Trafford, despite a slow start. Zirkzee, who joined United from Bologna this summer for €42.5 million, scored on his Premier League debut but has since gone goalless in 13 appearances.

Van Nistelrooy, a fellow Dutchman, remains optimistic about Zirkzee’s future, noting that, at 23, the young forward has ample time to develop. He commented, via Fabrizio Romano:

“Joshua Zirkzee will be a great player for Man United. He has a lot of talent, good age. Lots of potential to develop, one that we have to look after and give him time. He will get better and better and will be a very good player for this.”

Van Nistelrooy’s interim role ends on November 11 when Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim takes over as the club’s permanent manager.

Looking ahead to a key matchup, Van Nistelrooy recently led United to a 5-2 Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City and now faces Chelsea in a high-stakes Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday, November 3. Commenting on the game to United’s official site, he acknowledged the challenge Chelsea presents, especially given their attacking prowess and form.

“It’s going to be a big match, a tough one. Chelsea are playing really well, with lots of attacking players who can decide the game. We’ll need to be at our very best to compete. We want to try and win it, but we also respect their qualities and know we must be united and strong to succeed.”

While Chelsea sits sixth with 17 points after nine games, Manchester United has had a tough season and currently sits in 13th place with 11 points. United’s poor start led to Erik ten Hag’s dismissal after just over two years, despite winning two trophies during his tenure.
