Ruud van Nistelrooy shares his honest thoughts on Ruben Amorim in his final notes for the Manchester United program.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at Manchester United is uncertain as Ruben Amorim takes over as manager on Monday, leaving the Dutchman, who rejoined the club as assistant manager over the summer, in a position of waiting.

Despite the uncertainty, Van Nistelrooy is committed to supporting Amorim, stating he will fully back the new manager. He returned to United in the summer as Erik ten Hag’s assistant, and after stepping in as caretaker for four games following Ten Hag’s departure, he concluded his interim role with Sunday’s match against Leicester.

Van Nistelrooy is still awaiting word on whether he’ll be part of Amorim’s coaching team, but he has set his personal concerns aside to encourage fans to support Amorim. In his program notes for the Leicester game, he wrote, “From tomorrow, I’ll be behind our new coach Ruben Amorim, and I urge all who love the club to do the same.” He highlighted the potential within the squad, praising both the experienced players and rising academy talent.

He emphasized that everyone—players, coaches, club staff, and supporters—plays a role in maximizing the squad’s potential. Van Nistelrooy added that United demands character, commitment, and hard work from its players daily. He noted that although today’s media environment adds pressure, players must face challenges with courage, representing themselves, the club badge, and the dedicated fanbase.

Before facing Leicester, Van Nistelrooy remained unbeaten in his previous three matches as caretaker, with two wins and a draw, and he remains optimistic about United’s future. Despite United’s difficult start to the season, their worst since 1986, and a low goal tally, he sees “only good things” ahead.

Reflecting on his journey, Van Nistelrooy said, “The history of this club is incredible, and it’s always an honor to be part of it as a player.” Now, as a coach focused on the future, he believes United has everything necessary to reach past heights, but achieving that will demand hard work and determination from everyone

involved.
