Álvaro Fernández has expressed his satisfaction with life at Benfica, addressing transfer speculation linking him to a return to Manchester United. Reports suggest that Ruben Amorim has urged United’s board to re-sign the left-back, who joined Benfica permanently for £5 million after a loan spell last winter.

Fernández, now a key player for the Portuguese side, can be signed by other clubs for a release clause of £42 million. However, Manchester United have a buy-back option for £17 million that could be activated early next year. Despite this, the 21-year-old appears content at Benfica.

Speaking to Marca, Fernández said: “I don’t pay much attention to the rumors. I have people close to me who handle that. I’m focused on my game because I play every three days. It’s flattering to have interest from teams, but I’m doing very well here. United has a buy-back clause, but I’m very happy at Benfica.

“I have a five-year contract here, and my goal is to win titles and continue growing as a player. At 21, I’m still developing and want to achieve success, whether with Benfica or Spain.”
