Van Dijk took issue with Pau Torres’ attempt to win a penalty for Villa in the closing stages of the game. Liverpool, who now lead the Premier League by five points, capitalized on Manchester City’s draw at Brighton, with goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah securing their win. Salah’s goal came after a Villa throw-in, with Torres lying on the ground in Liverpool’s penalty area following a tussle with Ryan Gravenberch.

Replays showed Gravenberch holding his ground as Torres lost possession and fell, seemingly hoping for a penalty call that never came, as VAR chose not to intervene.

Van Dijk didn’t hide his disapproval of Torres’ theatrics. The Liverpool captain, captured on camera, gestured at the Villa defender, remarking, “You’re 6 foot 4, mate,” showing no sympathy for Torres’ display.
